New Brunswick gas prices surpassed 140 cents per litre on Thursday morning for the first time since April.
When the Energy and Utilities Board reset fuel prices on Thursday, the price of regular gasoline jumped to 140.8 cents per litre, an increase of 4.8 cents.
Gas prices have risen steadily since June 28 when drivers paid a maximum of 119 cents per litre.
New Brunswick drivers have not paid prices this high for gasoline since April 19 when the EUB’s maximum price was 140.7 cents per litre. On April 5, gasoline prices hit a high of 142.2 cents per litre.
The energy regulator sets maximum prices every Thursday based on the average prices of commodity trading on the international markets during the previous week.

Propane also saw a small price increase on Thursday. Consumers looking to fill up on propane will now pay 95.6 cents per litre, up from 94.9 cents per litre.
While gasoline and propane prices increased this week, the province’s two other regulated fuels saw price cuts.
People purchasing furnace oil will be paying 118.8 cents per litre this week, down from 119.6 cents per litre.
The largest drop came in the price of diesel. The energy regulator lowered the maximum cost of diesel to 138.1 cents per litre from 140 cents per litre last week.
