About 100 of the country's top cyclists are in Dieppe for the Canadian Track Cycling Championships.

The competitors, who include Olympian Tara Whitten, arrived at the Caisse populaire Dieppe Vélodrome on Wednesday.

Whitten, a bronze medalist from the 2012 Summer Games in London, is from Edmonton, but says she knows every foot of the Dieppe track.

"It's kind of a great feeling for me to come back to this track, because this is where I kind of started my career five years ago at [the] track nationals," she said.

"So to come back and see the track in such great condition and [it’s] just a pleasure to race here."

The event is a great opportunity to see not only Canada's leading cyclists, but also breakthrough performances from young amateur riders from across the country, said Richard Wooles, Whitten's Olympic coach.

"We're looking here now to hopefully see somebody we don't know that may be able to be fast-tracked in the next four years and be in Tara's position," he said.

The 2016 Summer Olympics will be held in Brazil.
