Durepos and his wheelchair basketball team won a gold medal on Saturday night in a hard fought game against Australia.
He is a five-time competitor at the Paralympics. He finishes his career with three gold medals and a silver medal.
Durepos told the crowd that he was retiring as player and was very thrilled to be leaving while he is at the top of his sport. The 44-year-old athlete from Charters Settlement said he will remain involved in paralympic sports.
He plans to continue coaching and working with the men's national wheelchair basketball team.
He and his wife Sabrina, also a former paralympian, will lead the New Brunswick wheelchair basketball team to the 2015 Canada Games.
