A 15-year-old boy from Caraquet is facing several charges, including impaired driving and dangerous driving, after a weekend incident involving a group of all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes travelling on town streets late at night.

“These vehicles are designed for off-road use only,” said RCMP Sgt. Paul Albert stated in a news release.

“This is a dangerous activity and the drivers of these vehicles are at risk of injuring themselves and possibly others by travelling on the street at night without headlights.”

District 8 RCMP were investigating after several off-road vehicles were driving along Saint-Pierre Boulevard late Saturday night, said Albert.

On Sunday, at about 3 a.m., officers, with the assistance of an auxiliary constable, stopped and arrested a boy, who was driving a dirt bike, he said.

The boy was released into the custody of his mother and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Other drivers involved in the incident are still at large, said Albert. Police are seeking the public's help in identifying them, he said.
