Two men were rescued on the Kennebecasis River Thursday evening when their power boat began sinking about 60 metres from shore.

The rescue happened on Thursday around 5:30 p.m. near the Gondola Point ferry.

A passing kayaker stopped to help the men.

The pair managed to hang onto the kayak until a rescue boat from the Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department could arrive.

Fire officials say the 16-foot boat must have hit something hard enough to cause it to sink almost immediately.
