There are still no signs of work on Saint John's two biggest construction sites, even though the province said construction would begin on Monday.

Repairs to the Saint John Harbour Bridge and the One Mile House Interchange have been stalled ever since the original contractor, ConCreate USL, went into receivership several months ago.

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Claude Williams says the new company, Horseshoe Hill Construction, is finalizing construction plans.

The new Ontario company is made up of senior people from the now bankrupt ConCreate.

"They will be paid on a monthly basis for the work that is completed, so we made sure that New Brunswickers were protected. I can assure you that we will be watching this project very closely," said Williams.

The minister said despite the connection, he's confident the two jobs will finish without anymore disruptions.

"One positive note is they know about the project, so it's not a whole brand new company and whole new crew that comes there and they've got to start from scratch. They know what work has been done, what work needs be done," Williams said.

"The work needs to be done and we want to complete it in a safe way so motorists and taxpayers can feel safe and they're not on the hook for the project that hasn't met the first deadline."

The two projects are worth a combined $110 million and are expected to be completed in 2013.

The bridge refurbishment includes full deck rehabilitation for both the eastbound and westbound lanes and the two ramps to and from Chesley Drive, as well as new edge and median barriers and lights.

The One Mile House highway interchange involves a series of overpasses that will lead to the Bayside Drive industrial area.
