The Saint John Airport is under a self-imposed boil order following a problem with its water distribution facility.

The airport draws its own water from a nearby reservoir and treats it on site. But problems started when a valve on a chlorination system malfunctioned after a routine maintenance test on Tuesday.

Angela McLean, the manager of regulatory affairs for the Saint John Airport, said that malfunction prompted the boil order.

"We are following Department of Health protocols for testing prior to lifting the boil orders so the boil order is still in place,” she said.

The airport must have two clean tests before the boil order is lifted.

McLean said she expects that will happen Friday.

A public health officer said there is no wider concern to people in Saint John.

Dr. Scott Giffen, the regional medical officer for Saint John, said the boil order doesn't effect the rest of the city because the airport draws their own supply.

"There's no reason for anyone to be concerned the fact that the airport has a local boil order on," he said.
