Rod Gillis pleaded not guilty to obstruction of justice charges in January. (CBC)A prominent New Brunswick lawyer is asking for more information to be disclosed involving charges that he obstructed justice.
A New Brunswick judge heard pre-trial motions on Thursday into obstruction of justice charges against Rod Gillis.
Gillis, who did not appear in court on Thursday, has been charged in connection with a trial in which he was representing a defendant.
Gillis pleaded not guilty to the charge in January.
His defence lawyers argued the Crown was not presenting enough information in its disclosure.
Court documents allege Gillis attempted to "obstruct, pervert or defeat the course of justice in a judicial proceeding by attempting to dissuade a person by threats, bribes or other corrupt means from giving evidence."
Maria Henheffer, a defence lawyer, told the court her client deserves to know precisely what he is alleged to have done.
Crown prosecutor Peter Craig, however, argued there is enough information in the disclosure.
Craig pointed to a conversation in which Gillis is alleged to have told a man to make sure no witnesses offered evidence in the trial.
Provincial Court Judge Irwin Lampert said he would rule on whether more particulars on the charge would be required in the coming weeks.
The trial is set for Aug. 15 to 17 in Bathurst.
