Moncton RCMP will test new traffic plan at Nickelback

After seven years of hosting outdoor concerts, the RCMP in Moncton have drawn up a new concert traffic plan.
The city hosted its first major outdoor concert, the Rolling Stones, at the Magnetic Hill site in 2005, and traffic flow and parking have been major issues during such events ever since, said Sgt. Mike Gaudet.
"We're trying to get a better flow and a safer way for individuals to partake in these events and try to standardize, if you will," he said.
The plan will be tested Saturday night during the Nickelback concert when thousands of people try to leave the concert site in the city's north end.
Gaudet said the biggest change this year is reducing traffic flow on Front Mountain Road from two lanes to one.
Then vehicles will only be allowed to travel west from Gorge Road to Route 126 after 1 p.m.
Police said this will leave more room for pedestrians to walk down that narrow route.
After 10 p.m., motorists won't be allowed to travel north on Mountain Road between the Magnetic Hill entrance and Casino New Brunswick.
Traffic will also be restricted heading north on Gorge Road near the King's Bridge Street intersection.
"We know that there's going to be a second show at the end of August and we'll be able to tinker and tweak, if you will, our plan to address any other concerns that are raised after this one," said Gaudet.
Bruce Springsteen is scheduled to play Magnetic Hill on Aug. 26.
