The Canadian Union of Public Employees is accusing the provincial government of cancelling special job placement sessions that were supposed to be held on Friday.

The last day of school was moved to Thursday instead of Friday for New Brunswick elementary and middle school students so the provincial government could hold special job placement sessions for staff.

But Sandy Harding, a CUPE spokesperson, said those job placement sessions have been cancelled at the last minute by the employer.

Harding said in an e-mail the union is saddened and upset and will release more information as it becomes available.

The job placement sessions became necessary because of the changes being made in the education system.

The provincial government has overhauled the school districts, cutting the number to seven from 14.

As well, the provincial government has announced significant changes to the inclusion program.
