Cocaine, methamphetamine and cash were seized during the investigation. (RCMP)A dozen people from the greater Moncton area are facing drug charges following a month-long investigation by the RCMP into street-level drug trafficking.
The 10 men and two women were operating independently of one another and were not part of an organized group, Codiac Regional RCMP Const. Damien Thériault said in a news release.
"Disrupting the drug trade at the street level may prevent others from becoming addicted and dependent on this type of lifestyle," he said.
"Drug abuse is commonly seen as the root cause of other types of crime as individuals turn to criminal activity, such as theft, to get another drug fix."
Four of the men, aged 18, 20, 22 and 31, were charged Monday in provincial court with the trafficking of cocaine, said Thériault.
One of them is already in custody on unrelated matters, while another is scheduled to have a bail hearing Tuesday, he said. The other two will appear in court at a later date for election and plea.
Another six men and two women are also facing trafficking-related charges involving cocaine and methamphetamine, said Thériault. They were all released on conditions and will appear in court at a later date.
