A Moncton teenager is dead following a motorcycle crash north of the city on Sunday night.

Police believe the 16-year-old was trying to pass another vehicle on his motorcycle when he lost control and the motorcycle left the road.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, District 11 RCMP stated in a news release.

The crash occurred on McLaughlin Dive, in Ammon, about 6 p.m.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist was on the scene and the investigation continues.

The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of his family.

Tragic weekend on New Brunswick roads

The teen's death is the fourth vehicle-related fatality in the province this past weekend.

The RCMP said a 21-year-old man on a dirt bike collided with an oncoming car around 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The incident happened in Tetagouche, near Bathurst. The young man died at the scene.

Later Saturday afternoon near Shediac, a 36-year-old man died while riding an all-terrain vehicle on Sainte-Anne Road in Boudreau West. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and the police are trying to determine what caused the man to lose control.

On Friday, a woman died when her car struck a tree near Baxters Corner.
