Police are investigating after a male driver was killed in a head-on collision on Highway 7 between Fredericton and Saint John Thursday afternoon.
Police say the driver of a car died after colliding with a three-quarter-ton NB Power truck on the Fredericton side of Petersville Hill about 12:30 p.m.
The name of the victim is not being released until next of kin have been notified.
The driver of the truck has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
"We are investigating the possibility of an impaired driving incident here," said Sgt. Rick Bernard.
Firefighters held up large tarps to shield the scene from onlookers as they cut off the roof of the victim's vehicle, which wound up in the ditch of the westbound lane near the mile marker 45.
That stretch of highway has solid line, with no passing allowed.
Debris, including tires and crumpled pieces of metal and plastic, were scattered all across the highway.
The stretch between Geary and Welsford was closed until nearly 5 p.m. to allow RCMP to conduct an investigation and clean up debris.
Traffic was being re-routed through Fredericton Junction on Route 101.
