Fire crews were called to a bark pile outside the west side mill about 2 a.m., said District Fire Chief Kevin Forrest.
No one was injured in the fire.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire to the woodchip mound, said Forrest.
“Just lost some of the product, that's all. There's no damage to any structures or anything. It's just the material that was burning. Wasn't a whole lot of material lost,” he said.
Forrest said he expected crews to remain on the scene for a few hours after the fire was knocked out to put out hot spots.
Irving was also using heavy equipment to move the damaged material.
