Foul play is not suspected in the discovery of a body in the First Nation community of Tobique in northwestern New Brunswick Wednesday morning.

But the investigation is ongoing, said RCMP.

The body of a 47-year-old man was discovered near the Mah-Sos School, just one day after the new kindergarten-to-Grade 8 school officially opened.

Officers were called to an area behind the building, located on Main Street, about 10:20 a.m.

An autopsy was expected to be performed Thursday morning.

The name of the deceased, who is from Tobique, has not been released.

Police officers have cleared the scene.

Tobique First Nation is located in northwestern New Brunswick. The community has a total population of 2,026 people, of whom 1,442 live on reserve.
