New Brunswick drivers will be digging further into their wallets to pay for gas on Thursday after the regulated maximum price of gasoline jumped by 2.5 cents per litre.

The new regulated maximum price of regular, self-serve gasoline is 132.8 cents per litre, which is the sixth price increase since late December.

The Energy and Utilities Board issued the new regulated maximum prices at 12:01 a.m.

Gasoline prices are not the only petroleum products that were increased on Thursday.

Diesel prices surpassed the 140-cent mark. The maximum regulated cost of diesel is now 140.2 cents.

The price of furnace oil jumped by almost two cents on Thursday. It now costs 121.7 cents per litre for furnace oil.

The only fuel to see its price fall on Thursday was propane.

The price of propane dipped to 103.6 cents per litre down from 106.5 cents per litre.

The energy regulator sets maximum prices each week based on the average prices of commodity trading on the international markets during the previous week.

Retail stations do not have to charge the maximum prices and can sell below the EUB's maximum prices.

Other regulated fuels also saw price increases, although smaller than the jump in gas prices, when the EUB reset the maximum prices on Thursday.
