RCMP have released the name of the 56-year-old Saint John man, whose body was found on the Kingston Peninsula on Monday.

The deceased is Joseph Rhéal Doucet, Sgt. Andy O'Connell stated in a news release.

Doucet's body was discovered in a remote wooded area on the Backland Road, said O'Connell. Police were called to the scene about 2 p.m., he said.

An autopsy will be conducted this week to determine the cause of Doucet's death.

The RCMP's general investigation section and forensic identification section were seen searching the area with a canine unit for much of the afternoon and evening.

Police officers were also posted near the ferry in the area.
