Fredericton Mayor Brad Woodside said some people have unrealistic expectations for snow clearing in the city. (CBC)Fredericton Mayor Brad Woodside said some residents in the capital city are expecting miracles when it comes to snow clearing.
The mayor said people should be patient, especially when cleanup takes place on the weekend, which has happened over the past two weeks.
Woodside said the good work of city crews can create impossible expectations about snow clearing.
“We tend to set the bar so high that there's an expectation that we can do some things that are almost improbable after some of these storms,” Woodside said.
The Fredericton mayor said it's understandable that people get frustrated when they are waiting for roads and sidewalks to be cleared around the city.
But Woodside said there is only so much that can be done when the city is blanketed by snow.
"There's an expectation that after a storm, everything is going to be done and sidewalks will be cleaned and rinks will be all shoveled off, walking trails and everything like that,” he said.
“And the fact is, sometimes we just get a little impatient. So all I'm saying is, give us the opportunity to get things done and we'll get it done as quickly as possible."
Woodside said Fredericton ranks among the best in New Brunswick for snow removal following storms.
The mayor’s pleading comes just a few days before the city is preparing for another possible snowstorm.
Environment Canada is forecasting snow for the city on Saturday and Sunday.
