The story of a Moncton teen's four-year fight with cancer is being included in the first original French-language version of the Chicken Soup for the Soul book series.

The book Ten Needles tells the story of Sean Collins' final months before he died in 2007 at the age of 13.

Now, his story is being picked up by the well-known book series that compiles inspirational stories.

Martin LaTulippe, a motivational speaker and author, spent the last months of Sean's life chronicling the teen's battle with cancer and his thoughts and insights.

The result was the book Ten Needles, which was released in November 2007, four months after Sean's death.

"I just decided to go with Sean's story because I think he would … probably just laugh and say, 'cool dude,' like he was always saying,” LaTulippe said.

LaTulippe said it was difficult to condense the book into 1,200 words.

“The biggest challenge for me was to tackle that humongous book of love and courage and make it 1,200 words,” LaTulippe said.

“So it took me … two weeks just to ponder and think about it and really bring back Sean's essence to that little piece."

The book will be released in Quebec in March.

Chris Collins, Sean’s father, said his son would be proud that his story was being published in a book.

"This will raise the profile of kids that are battling cancer throughout North America because there are many of them and we tend to forget about children when we think about the battle we're waging against cancer.” Collins said.
