The minister for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency was in Charlottetown Monday to announce a million-dollar plan to market cruise ship travel in the Atlantic Region.

Bernard Valcourt said the federal government, the governments of the four Atlantic provinces and industry organizations will invest more than $1.14 million in the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association over the next three years to market the region as a three-season, family-friendly premier cruise destination.

"It just means that we can market together for three years," said Betty MacMillan, chair of the ACCA.

"We can go to cruise-industry trade shows. We can partner with cruise lines on joint marketing accords that are advertising our region, really putting a focus on our region to bring passengers here."

ACOA's share of the money is $350,000.
