A woman is in hospital with serious injuries to her lower body after being run over by a steamroller at a work site in Moncton Monday afternoon.

The woman, who is in her 30s, was working as a flag person at the intersection of Shediac and Lewisville roads at about 1 p.m. when the incident occurred, said Codiac RCMP Const. Damien Thériault.

"She was taken to the hospital, where she remains at this time with serious injuries, but we don't know the exact extent at this time," he said.

Traffic was being rerouted well into the afternoon as police and Worksafe NB investigated.

The investigation continues.
