One person is dead and two others injured after a three-vehicle crash on the Miramichi Bridge, N.B., on Saturday.

Police said one vehicle hit another from behind, forcing it to crash into another oncoming vehicle. It happened shortly after 7 p.m.

A 56-year-old man from the area was killed. His name has not been released.

Two others were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One has been released, but the other remained in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said alcohol may have played a part in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.

"The contributing factors to the accident are still being investigated," said Const. Andrew Vickers, with the Miramichi Police Force.

The crash disrupted traffic for about four hours Saturday because the bridge had to be closed.
