A Moncton man will remain in custody while he awaits trial on charges of possessing millions of images of child pornography.

Douglas Hugh Stewart, 51, had a bail hearing last week but Provincial Court Judge Irwin Lampert requested extra time to grant a decision because he wanted to review the relevant case law.

On Monday, Lampert ruled Stewart would not be granted bail at all.

A publication ban was placed on evidence from the bail hearing and the reasons for the judge's decision.

Stewart will return to court on June 7.

He was arrested on March 23 as part of a police investigation into online trading of child sex abuse images.

Police say the operation was the largest seizure of its kind in New Brunswick.

The arrest was a part of Operation J Treasures, an investigation into peer-to-peer computer file sharing of child sexual abuse images in the province, which began in November 2010.

The Atlantic Region Integrated Technical Crime Unit, Codiac Regional RCMP, Fredericton Police Force, the National Child Exploitation Co-ordination Centre and members of other RCMP districts throughout the province assisted in the investigation.
