RCMP have charged a man with first-degree murder in the shooting death of another Saint-Simon, N.B., man Saturday. RCMP in northeastern New Brunswick have charged a 21-year-old man with first-degree murder in a shooting death Saturday in Saint-Simon.
RCMP said the body of a man in his thirties was found yesterday morning in a local home. He'd been shot.
Cpl. Dan Roy said police made an arrest a short time later. Charges were approved early Sunday.
"We officially charged Jean-Michel Gionet from the Saint-Simon area. He was charged with first-degree murder and this was done via tele-remand. The accused is going to reappear in court tomorrow morning in Caraquet in provincial court," said Roy.
Roy said the victim and the accused knew each other, but wouldn't say how.
The name of the deceased has not been released.
Sunday, officers searched the home where the body was discovered.
Few details are being released about the investigation.
