Police chase ends in arrest

District 2 RCMP arrested a 22 year old man after a chase that approached 200 km/h (CBC)
A 22-year-old Halifax man has been fined $1,150 and banned from driving in Canada for one year after a high speed highway chase on Monday.
District 2 RCMP were alerted that a black Porsche SUV, with no licence plates, was travelling westbound on the Trans-Canada Highway towards Oromocto at very high speed.
According to a news release RCMP pursued the SUV briefly, but stopped for safety reasons when the driver neared 200 km/h and showed no sign of slowing down.
A road block was established, which forced the suspect to turn around and travel the wrong way in the westbound lanes. The driver took Exit 301, against the flow of traffic, into the Town of Oromocto.
Police did not chase the suspect because of the erratic and dangerous nature of his driving and said it was thanks to tips from the public that they were able to locate the black SUV a short time later, hidden behind a grocery store and mall.
Craig John McPhee of Halifax was arrested inside the mall where police said he was trying to flee on foot.
McPhee pleaded guilty to evading police and was fined $1150 and prohibited from driving in Canada for 12 months.
