A 45-year-old Perth-Andover man has been identified as the victim of a fatal transport truck crash near St. Stephen on Monday.
RCMP said Kenneth Goodine was hauling a load of fertilizer on Route 3 at about 4:30 p.m. when he went through a stop sign at the intersection of Highway 127 in Lawrence Station and crashed in a ditch.
Both driver and rig seemed fine when Larry Lunn, who worked with Goodine at Gary Inman Trucking, last saw his co-worker.
"The guy that loaded him talked to him there for a while and helped him buckle his load down and put his placards on," said Lunn. "We gassed him last night. Everything was fine. He was laughing."
Lunn searched the accident scene yesterday, looking for animal tracks or some other explanation for the crash.
"I drove trucks for 30-some years now, and I don't really understand," said Lunn. "I tramped the roads all morning trying to figure it out. It's sad. He's got a little 15-month-old baby."
Goodine had been working for the company for about a month.
Police said an investigation into the crash continues. There will be an autopsy.
