A Saint John Police vehicle drives on the slippery uptown streets on Wednesday. (CBC)New Brunswick is cleaning up after another winter storm as snow blanketed southern New Brunswick.
Heavy snow and high winds started on Wednesday afternoon and continued through the night.
Andy Firth, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said the southern parts of the province were hit the hardest by the snow storm.
"The Saint John area picked up about 16 centimetres. Moncton was more hard hit at 27 [centimeters] and Fredericton was really spared the brunt of the storm. It only picked up a couple of centimeters," Firth said.
St. Stephen also saw roughly 10 centimetres of snow fall.
The winter storm has led to the closure of schools in district 10 in the St. Stephen area. As well, schools in McAdam and Harvey are closed.
Schools in District 18 are open on Thursday, however, all school buses in the Fredericton-area district are running one hour late.
Most early morning flights out of the Greater Moncton International Airport are delayed or cancelled. As well, the early flights out of the Saint John Airport have been cancelled.
NB Power is reporting fewer than 100 outages so far on Thursday morning.
A snowfall has been lifted in southern New Brunswick.
Saint John was hit with the snowstorm on Wednesday afternoon.
Most roads in the city have been cleared.
Ross Mather, a spokesman for the Maritime Road Development Corp., which operates the section of the Trans-Canada Highway between Moncton and Fredericton, said motorists should use caution Thursday morning as crews are out cleaning up the snow.
