Hundreds of people packed the Saint-Bernard Roman Catholic Church in Neguac to mourn the Rousselles. (CBC)Hundreds of people gathered at a church in northeastern New Brunswick on Thursday to mourn a young couple who died when their vehicle hit a moose last weekend.
Marie-Eve Rousselle, 26, and her husband Robin Rousselle, 29, were driving on Highway 11, near Shediac Bridge, when the accident occurred on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Robin Rousselle died at the scene, and his wife was rushed to hospital in critical condition. She died the next day.
The couple were high school sweethearts and had just married in August after 10 years together. Marie-Eve Rousselle was 10 weeks pregnant.
Their two-year-old son, Dylan, survived the crash with only minor injuries.
On Thursday, mourners streamed into Saint-Bernard Roman Catholic Church in Neguac — the same church where the couple were married.
Although the Rousselles were living in Dieppe in the southeast of the province, both of their families are from the Neguac area.
Rev. Serge Comeau, who married the Rousselles, said in his homily that there is no way to make sense of the young couple's death.

(CBC)"Even though we don't understand everything with our intelligence, I think that we can feel with our hearts that Marie-Eve and Robin continue to live but in a different way, in their son Dylan and the members of the family," Comeau said.
Comeau also spoke of Dylan, who will be cared for by his grandparents.
"In the communion of our hearts, we can [comprehend] that there is something more than the death in this tragedy," he said.
Marie-Anna Breau, a friend of Robin Rousselle's mother, said the young couple touched many lives in their community.
"It's a small community, and everybody knows each other," she said.
"We all know either the parents of one or the other. I think they were well loved and well known."
The couple will be buried at a cemetery in Lagacéville.
