Moncton Wildcats have the upper hand in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League championship series after a convincing 9-3 win Sunday over the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The win gives them a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. The winner gets a berth in the Canadian final for junior hockey's top prize, the Memorial Cup.

Moncton coach Danny Flynn, however, doesn't take anything for granted.

"Well, we learned a long time ago that come playoff time, two [wins] is a long way away from four. And we've been happy with the outcome of the first two games, but we realize that there's still lots of hockey left to be played," he said.

"It's a very good team in Saint John and in our mind this series is far from over," said Flynn.

'Kinda feel bad for Saint John's side, but that's the way the puck bounces, I guess'—Wildcats fan Armand LeBlanc of Shediac

Mike Thomas, a New Maryland native and a Sea Dog left-winger, wasn't looking forward to the bus ride home after last night's game at the Moncton Coliseum.

It's going to be brutal. I mean coming here and being embarrassed like that. I don't know. It's unacceptable and not what we want, but it's what we deserve after playing like that," he said.

And how did it feel to be a Sea Dogs fan?

"Not too good," said Terry Rogers of Quispamsis.

"Kinda feel bad for Saint John's side, but that's the way the puck bounces, I guess," said Wildcat fan Armand LeBlanc of Shediac.

On Friday, Moncton won the first game of the all-New Brunswick final 5-1.

The next game is Tuesday at Harbour Station in Saint John.
