A former Plaster Rock, N.B., Baptist church pastor has been sentenced to six months in jail and two years of probation after being found guilty of indecent assault.
Frederick Douglas Hanson, 61, showed no emotion as he was placed in handcuffs and removed from the Woodstock courtroom Friday as his wife, daughter and son looked on.
Hanson was also ordered to provide a DNA sample and will be on the national sex offender registry for 10 years.
The indecent assault charge relates to incidents that took place between Jan. 1, 1971, and Dec. 31, 1974, in the Somerville area. A jury found Hanson guilty on Jan. 22.
He was found not guilty of a second charge of sexual assault related to alleged incidents between Jan. 1, 1988, and Dec. 31, 1990, in the Upper Brighton and Somerville areas.
Hanson is facing four other charges: two counts of touching someone under 14 for a sexual purpose and two counts of touching for a sexual purpose while being in a position of trust. The trial on those charges will resume May 3.
Hanson resigned as pastor of the Plaster Rock Free Will Baptist Church in February 2008 after the RCMP investigation into his conduct was made public.
