Cpl. Marie-France Comeau, 38, left, was slain Nov. 25, 2009. The body of Jessica Lloyd, 27, right, was found by police Monday morning. (Canadian Press)Former classmates and teachers from Fredericton's École Sainte-Anne are remembering Cpl. Marie-France Comeau, who was killed in her home in Ontario on Nov. 25.
Col. Russell Williams, former base commander at CFB Trenton, where Comeau, 38, was posted, has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of Comeau and Jessica Lloyd, 27, who was found dead on Monday.
Comeau spent 12 years in the military, reaching the rank of corporal before her death in November.
She grew up in a military family, moving frequently, and spent two years in Fredericton in the late 1980s, attending École Sainte-Anne for Grades 9 and 10.
Andre Martin points to a yearbook photo of Marie-France Comeau during her time as a student at Fredericton's Ecole Sainte-Anne. (CBC)André Martin, a former classmate, said he was shocked when he heard the news.
"It was just very shocking — like you hear about things like that but when you know or have known the person it's always a bit more surprising," Martin said. "It was quite a surprise."
Jacques Dubé, Comeau's former French and social studies teacher, said he hadn't seen her since she left Fredericton but found the news hard to believe.
"That's sad … [a] good human being like her, it's sad," Dubé said, adding that Comeau was a good student and well liked by others
Williams, 46, remains in custody after a brief court appearance Monday afternoon.
In addition to the two murder charges, the commander of 8 Wing at CFB Trenton was charged with breaking and entering, sexual assault and forcible confinement in connection with two home invasions in Tweed, about 30 kilometres north of Belleville.
