Premier Shawn Graham has been chosen Newsmaker of the Year by CBC New Brunswick for his controversial decision to sell NB Power to Hydro-Québec.
The historic proposal to sell the provincial energy utility for almost $4.8 billion has provoked more protest and controversy than the province has seen in years.
'When a final deal is put before the people of New Brunswick, they'll see that many of their questions ... our government will have answered.'—Premier Shawn Graham
In a newsmaker interview with CBC New Brunswick, Graham said the final text of the deal will address many of the public's concerns about the agreement.
"People are looking for answers. It doesn't mean they're outright against the deal, but they want the security that they're asking for, those issues to be identified. So that's what our government is working hard to do now," said the Liberal premier.
"And I think when a final deal is put before the people of New Brunswick, they'll see that many of their questions that they've put forward, many of the issues they've addressed, our government will have answered, hopefully adequately," he added.
The full half-hour interview with Graham can be seen on CBC Television in New Brunswick on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
