An 18-year-old man from the Moncton area has been sentenced to 11 years in prison in connection with a violent home invasion in Shediac earlier this year.
Cole Alexander McFadden pleaded guilty last week to manslaughter, aggravated assault and armed robbery.
On March 10, about 3 a.m., Cole was one of three masked men who broke into a home on Main Street, where 32-year-old Layne McDonald was shot and killed.
Just 90 minutes earlier, several armed men also broke into an apartment on Humphrey Street in Moncton and badly beat two men.
McFadden told the court his crimes were committed so that he could fuel his drug habit and that he didn't intend for anyone to get hurt.
Four other men are also facing charges in connection with the two incidents.
Daniel Steven Dion, of Moncton, is charged with first-degree murder, assault with a weapon, having his face masked and several other offences.
Joshua Daniel Martin, of Dieppe, and Marc Mathieu Leblanc, of Memramcook, have both been charged with manslaughter and other offences.
John Marc Gallant, of Memramcook, is charged with assisting and enabling Dion to escape, knowing he had committed murder, as well as other charges.
