A Sussex miner died on Saturday during an underground accident, according to Potash Corp. New Brunswick.
Mark Fracchia, the general manager of the mine, said Vincent Mitton, 55, was working on some piping in the existing mine around 3 p.m. on Nov. 21.
"A mine worker suffered fatal injuries as he was working underground in the existing mine," Fracchia said.
"The details of the incident aren't available yet at this time because of course we are still investigating."
Fracchia said Potash Corp. is conducting an internal investigation into the accident and the company is co-operating with a WorkSafeNB probe.
The mine manager said most of the workers were on site at the time. In October, the Sussex mine started an eight-week shutdown.
The mining company is building a second mine in the area, a project estimated to be worth $1.67 billion.
