Residents are urged to boil water for cooking, drinking and brushing teeth. (CBC) A boil water order has been issued for about 300 people in Edmundston following a water main break Wednesday night.
The affected residents are in a new development in the north of the city, said Paul Dionne, director of public works.
The boil order was issued as a precaution while the water is being tested, he said. Samples were taken Thursday morning and results from the lab are expected by Friday afternoon.
"At that time, if everything's OK, we should be able to issue information that the water is potable," said Dionne.
Meanwhile, the city is recommending affected residents boil their water for at least one minute before using it for cooking, drinking, or brushing teeth.
"So there's no warning for showers and things of that nature, but everything related to cooking food and consumption," said Dionne.
A 12-inch wide water main broke Wednesday night and dropped the water pressure.
