Dianne Trottier died on Sunday night after being hit by a vehicle the night before in Fredericton. Fredericton police are looking for the driver of a dark vehicle in connection with the accident. (Robin Rowland/CBC)The Capital Region Crime Stoppers is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to identification of the driver in last weekend's hit-and-run accident that killed a 33-year-old woman in Fredericton.
The Fredericton police are still searching for the driver, a passenger and the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed Dianne Trottier last Saturday.
Trottier, a producer with CBC News, was returning to her Fredericton hotel from a friend's home at 11:30 p.m. AT Saturday when she was struck while crossing the intersection at Regent and Beaverbrook streets in her motorized wheelchair.
Trottier, 33, suffered serious injuries from the accident and later died in hospital.
David Kelly, a board member with the local Crime Stoppers chapter, said rewards are routinely offered tips that help solve crimes. But Kelly said he feels this hit-and-run merits a larger amount.
The group provides money to tipsters, but normally the sums are closer to $50.
Meantime, Fredericton police Const Ralph Currie said investigators are urging a second person involved in the hit-and-run to come forward.
"There was a front-seat passenger in the vehicle on the night of the incident," Currie said. "We know that from eyewitness accounts. It appears that the dome light inside the vehicle was turned on prior to the vehicle fleeing the area.
"We are asking the passenger to report to the police immediately, and we've continued to encourage the driver to come forward as well."
Currie said they've also narrowed down the type of car that they're searching for.
The police are looking for a dark-coloured, four-door, mid-size General Motors car, which has a rear spoiler on the back.
