Police in Fredericton are examining a car that may have been involved in a fatal hit-and-run involving a woman in a motorized wheelchair.

Acting on a tip, police found a gold-coloured car with front end damage abandoned in a field in the Nasonworth area, south of Fredericton, on Tuesday night.

Dianne Trottier, a producer with CBC News, was returning to her Fredericton hotel from a friend's home at 11:30 p.m. AT on Saturday when she was struck while crossing the intersection at Regent and Beaverbrook streets.

Trottier, 33, suffered serious injuries from the accident and later died in hospital.

The driver of the car that struck her did not stop.

Cpl. Tim Sowers of the Fredericton police said the vehicle they are seeking may not have heavy damage.

"The vehicle we are looking for, we believe there is some damage to it, but people should be aware that the damage may not be extensive," Sowers told CBC News.

"So be alert. Even if you see a vehicle that's perhaps not damaged enough, but you have some suspicions, please let us know," he said.
