The RCMP said Thursday that they have uncovered at least 10 more victims in a child pornography case involving a New Brunswick man.
Michael Gary Gilbert, 38, of Tracyville was charged Wednesday in provincial court in Burton with three sex-related offences, including sexual assault, sexual interference and making child pornography.
Thursday afternoon, the RCMP told reporters that as a result of fresh searches of Gilbert's property, they discovered new evidence of child pornography in the form of CDs and pictures that will likely lead to additional charges.
The alleged victims identified as a result of that evidence are male and female, of various ages, and most are from New Brunswick, police said. All are now adults but were under 18 at the time of the alleged offences.
The charges laid Wednesday involve a man who was younger than 18 when the alleged crimes occurred. He is the only alleged victim to come forward so far, but police are asking that other victims also speak out.
Gilbert did not enter a plea to the charges on Wednesday and waived his right to a bail hearing on Thursday.
He has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Feb. 9.
Court documents allege that the crimes on which Wednesday's charges are based took place between November 2001 and December 2004. Police say they involve two sets of photos circulated on the internet.
The Crown obtained a publication ban on any information that could identify the complainant, witnesses or minors shown in the photos.
The 15-month investigation into Gilbert involved the Toronto Police, Maine State Police and the New Brunswick RCMP.
