RCMP in Atholville, N.B., say a man is recovering in hospital after being shot by police then shocked with a Taser stun gun Friday, following a chase that began in a local hardware and sporting goods store.
At 2:30 p.m. AT, police received a call that an agitated man armed with a knife was in the store, causing a disturbance.
Police say that when a customer tried to subdue the man, he was stabbed in the hand.
An RCMP officer confronted the armed man in the parking lot and shot him twice and the suspect jumped in the officer's car and drove off.
With police in pursuit, the man lost control of the cruiser, went into a ditch and tried to flee on foot.
Cornered by RCMP officers, the man was shocked twice with a constable's Taser before he could be subdued, police said.
The man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
