A cow that escaped from its farm two weeks ago has been making the rounds on Fredericton's north side.

The one-year-old mixed-breed beef cow on the lam from Brown Farm for about two weeks was last spotted crossing a road on Tuesday night near the Wal-Mart at Two Nations Crossing in Fredericton.

City resident Brent Myles said he's been on the lookout for the 272-kilogram cow since being asked by the police last week whether he'd seen the animal.

"It was kind of weird getting pulled over in the middle of town and being asked by a cop if I'd seen a cow," Myles said.

Nearby farmer Albert Neill had a run-in with the animal on Saturday. He told CBC News he noticed the cow following his herd into their stalls.

After she was inside she began jumping from stall to stall, and when he tried to move her to a different location, she took off again, Neill said.

"There was no stopping her," Neill said. "She'd lower her head and go. If you were standing in front of her, she would just — bing! — knocked you for a loop."

The cow, along with three other animals, escaped from Brown Farm by jumping three fences, owner Ralph Brown said. The other three have since been captured.

"I feel sorry for the cow," Brown said, "because it's in a strange area, strange country."

Brown said he doesn't think the cow will hurt anyone, but it likely is scared. "I'm hoping we get it before someone gets hurt."

Brown said the farm had just acquired the four animals before their escape and is now planning on selling them to other farms.

Officials with Fredericton police said they have given up looking for the cow, while spokespeople with the provincial government said dealing with the animal is the responsibility of the city, which will look into the matter further when another sighting is reported.
