Most of the New Brunswick flood victims still being housed by the Canadian Red Cross will be moving Tuesday from one temporary home to another.

Since the flood, the Red Cross has been providing shelter for 134 evacuees using five hotels in the Fredericton area and a residence at the University of New Brunswick.

Starting Tuesday, most of those people will move to a residence building at the St. Thomas University campus.

"Several other sites we've been using cannot continue to provide rooms because of previous commitments for conferences and other events," said Bill Lawlor, the Red Cross's director of disaster management in Atlantic Canada.

Lawlor said putting all the evacuees in one place will also require fewer Red Cross volunteers, many of whom haven't had a break in three weeks.

The organization is also providing temporary shelter for 14 people in the Edmundston area, and two in Saint John.

As of May 15, about 1,540 homes and businesses had registered with the New Brunswick government indicating they incurred flood damage.
