Bathurst's mayor, Stephen Brunet, will serve a second term in office.

Brunet convincingly won Monday's municipal election in the northeastern New Brunswick city, taking 3,943 ballots according to unofficial results released by Elections N.B.

Brunet's only competition for the mayor's office was James Risdon, who received 612 ballots.

"I'm really pleased to get the support that I did get from the citizens of Bathurst," Brunet said. "I think the citizens of Bathurst have come to know me over the number of years that I've served."

The city's council will comprise four incumbents and four new faces.

Incumbents Hugh Comeau, Blair Doucet, Scott Ferguson and Graham Wiseman were re-elected.

Bob Anderson, Anne-Marie Gammon, Daniel Roy and Hugh Young will also serve as city councillors.
