A man from Grand Falls, N.B., has been found guilty of the assault and sexual assault of a four-year-old girl.
Curtis Hathaway was found guilty on the two charges in provincial court in Woodstock on Thursday.
His sentencing has been scheduled for March 14. He faces a maximum of 10 years for sexual assault and five years for assault.
The identity of the child is protected by court order.
Hathaway was previously found not guilty of criminal negligence causing death in October 2007 in connection with the death of the two-year-old daughter of a former girlfriend.
The toddler died of a perforated bowel. An autopsy found that a plastic pencil-shaped toy, nine centimetres long and one centimetre in diameter, had been inside the child for two or three days and had caused the perforation.
The child's mother, Anne-Marie Mooers, was found guilty of criminal negligence causing death for failing to recognize her daughter was in dire need of medical attention. Mooers was sentenced to 27 months in prison.
