The owner of a motocross track in west Saint John says he's finished trying to appease his neighbours and has begun rallying his own supporters.

Last week some people living near the track held a heated public meeting with city officials about noise complaints, and now the track owner says he plans to have a meeting of his own.

Al Williams said he's angry he wasn't personally invited to last week's meeting at a west-side church concerning noise from his motocross track off Ocean Westway. For now, he said, he isn't going to do anything to control the noise.

"These guys spoiled it by doing that," Williams said Monday, referring to his neighbours living in Monte Cristo Park. "I could have put the sound curtains up, I could have done all the water and dust issues I could have addressed."

Williams said he has a petition going, collecting the names of people who are in favour of his track.

Jim LeBlanc, who has two sons who ride, is one of those people.

"If this track was going to be stationed anywhere else, such as Moncton, they welcome things like this," LeBlanc said. "It draws business, it's a good, natural thing. My family's been racing now for three years. It is a family solid event."

Williams said he can find a thousand people like LeBlanc who want a safe place for kids to ride their dirt bikes.

Once he has the names of all his supporters, he said, he'll hold his own meeting and invite the mayor.
