Two masked teenagers who shot at elementary school children with paintball guns last week are being sought by Bathurst, N.B., police.
Children in the playground at Parkwood Elementary School last Wednesday retreated to the building and told school authorities of two masked teenagers shooting paintballs at the play area from the nearby woods.
Const. Josh Ouellette of the Bathurst City Police said no one was hit by any of the paintballs.
"The school was then locked down, all the doors were locked and officers set up a search of the area, and we came up pretty empty-handed," he said Friday.
Ouellette said police found paintballs and footprints in the area, but little is known about the two masked gunmen.
He said they are likely local high school students, and may be involved in organized paintball events in the community, but police have no leads in the case.
"There is a local paintball club in the city, and we're hoping people there will hear something and contact us," Ouellette said. "It made the local news here pretty quickly, so I think the youngsters involved got a little scared and are keeping a low profile, but I think they'll talk about it eventually."
Ouellette said the school has lockdown procedures in place, and those rules were followed in the incident last week.
