A woman from Old Ridge, N.B., who was charged in connection with the death of her newborn baby made a brief appearance in court Thursday.
 
Becky Sue Morrow, 26, pleaded not guilty to a charge of failing to provide the necessities of life after child birth.

She was ordered to undergo a 28-day psychiatric assessment.

The court ruled she undergo a further 28-day assessment, and appear back in court on May 10.
 
Police were called to Morrow's home on the outskirts of St. Stephen on March 12, where a baby's body was found in the back yard.
 
It's an offence, under Section 242 of the Criminal Code, for a pregnant woman to fail to get reasonable assistance in childbirth.
 
The charge Morrow faces carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
