A Fredericton microbrewery will quadruple its capacity with the assistance of a $25,000 forgivable loan from Business New Brunswick.
The Northampton Brewing Company produces Picaroons ales to supply local draft markets and bottle sales through provincial liquor stores, and will now be able to explore sales in the larger Canadian market.
Dunbar said the loan will go toward new brewing tanks and a faster bottling line. The company hasn't been able to keep up with demand for its various ales, including the first organic ale in the Maritimes.
Owner Sean Dunbar said the loan is a vote of confidence in a homegrown business.
"With this expansion, we've pretty much quadrupled our capacity, which actually vies enough capacity to supply the New Brunswick market, first of all," Dunbar said. "We'd like to expand ourselves outside the southern Golden Triangle here, and get to the rest of the province. That's our No. 1 goal in this."
Picaroons ales have been on tap in Fredericton since 1995.
