Pharmaceutical giant Wyeth says it's making progress in ending a shortage of two popular birth control pills in Canada.

Drug stores across the country are running low on Triphasil and Alesse, and some pharmacies have run out. The company blames a problem at its manufacturing plant.

But a Wyeth spokesperson said Thursday that the company has now received a shipment of Alesse and patients should be able to refill prescriptions within a week.

There's still no word on when Triphasil may be available. Wyeth says it hopes shipments will arrive in the next few weeks.
