A fire that killed a young woman near Campbellton this week was an accident, the RCMP said.

Nancy Haché, 28, died when her mobile home in Val D'Amour caught fire early Sunday morning.

The fire was caused by hot grease, said Sgt. James Bates, who added that  police did a thorough investigation.

"Any fire that we attend, especially where we find a body inside the structure, we consider it as a crime scene until we rule those possibilities out," he said.

"In this case, we took every investigative measure with the fire marshal and the coroner's office to ascertain that no foul play was involved and we ruled out criminal possibilities in the case."

Bates said an autopsy found Haché died of smoke inhalation.
