The RCMP case involving two sun conure birds in Dieppe just took another confusing twist.

It turns out the bird that was stolen from PetCulture last month, Vern, has been returned, but his brother, Cosmo, who flew away from his owner's home in February, is still missing.

On Monday, RCMP reported both of the medium-sized brightly coloured parrots, which are each worth more than $1,000, had been recovered.

At that time, police believed a bird seized by officers following an investigation into the stolen bird case was actually Cosmo, and that a bird found by a private citizen was Vern.

"It has since been established that the stolen bird has been returned but the lost bird is still missing," Const. Damien Thériault said in a release on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Codiac RCMP seized a bird when the individuals who had just purchased it turned it over to police believing it was the stolen sun conure, said Thériault.

But the original owner of the bird however contacted RCMP on Monday with proof that the sun conure police returned to the pet store was not stolen, he said.

That bird has since been returned to the people who had turned it over to police, said Thériault.

He was wearing a dark coat at the time.

The second suspect is described as being in his 30s and possibly aboriginal, say RCMP. He is about five-foot-nine, with a medium build, brown eyes, brown hair shaved on the sides, and clean shaven.
